Representation of complex spatial data has historically been top-down, relationship-driven, and hierarchical. This served 2 dimensional mapping well, but we inhabit a much richer data landscape today.
The introduction of 3D data into mapmaking and spatial reasoning calls for a new representation of spatial data. It should be dynamic, networked, both local and global, and without hierarchy.
